Yamaha introduces their 2016 snowmobiles with big news in the Apex and Vector line-up
Yamaha’s new lightweight SingleShot is all about weight savings, making for a more comfortable and better handling sled. The SingleShot shorttrack 129 rear suspension is 10 pounds lighter than the old Mono-Shock 128 and the 146 longtrack is 9 pounds lighter than the previous 136’er. The new suspension uses coupling blocks instead of the old Mono Shock design.
The all-new SingleShot rear suspension features a revised drop-link rear suspension linkage, new geometry, and a significant weight loss over previous designs. The dual arm, fully-coupled suspension features inside the rail coupling blocks, an improved track tensioning system.
The SingleShot 129 with a 1.25-inch deep RipSaw track is found on the 2016 Apex, Apex LE, RS Vector and RS Vector LE models. The SingleShot 146 is on the Apex and Vector X-TX models. Power steering is standard equipment on every Vector. Lighter, longer, what’s not to like.
The new Fox Float 3 XV shock in the SlingShot introduces new air-spring technology to Yamaha with a secondary Xtra Volume chamber designed specifically to eliminate unwanted harsh bottoming over rough terrain. Both the primary and secondary XV air-spring chambers are infinitely adjustable for both rider preference and conditions.
Yamaha’s new electronically controlled throttle system, dubbed the Chip-Controlled Throttle (YCCT), senses throttle input and electronically controls the throttle valve. Available in the Vector, the drive-by-wire system serves up three user-selectable performance modes; S (Sport) Mode for maximum performance; T (Touring) Mode for smooth low and mid-range response and improved fuel efficiency; and E (Entry) Mode for predictable acceleration, reduced top speed and optimum fuel economy.
The changes are subtle in the 2016 Viper, with shock and track length changes. The Viper S-TX trades the old 141-inch uncoupled, air suspension for a fully coupled 137 inch track, targeted at trail riding.
The SRViper R‑TX SE features the new lightweight Tuner 3 Skis with twin-keels and a replaceable ski-hoop for custom color matching.

The front suspension rides on coil-over FOX Piggy Back Front Suspension Shocks. The high pressure gas aluminum body, rebuildable shocks feature easy to adjust compression damping with a simple three position knob. The rear has a new FOX high-pressure gas piggyback shock with three easy to adjust compression damping performance settings.
