On 2/21/17 I received an email from the Northampton Water Works asking me to inform our club members and anyone else who rides a snowmobile to stay off the Dam at the Mountain St Reservoir.  Below is the email.

“It came to our attention over the weekend, that snowmobiles are making
u-turns by the Mountain Street reservoir dam, and riding up the hill
on the southern side of the dam to do so. There are areas of the
road/trail that are wide enough to make a u-turn in that area without
driving up the dam itself.”

“Please remind club members to stay on the trails.”

What more can I say?

Unfortunately, I have to mention this every season and I should not have to. Basically, all our trails are sensitive and can be revoked at any time. All super sensitive trails are well marked. Whately for 2016/2017 has a 3 super sensitive trails. Herlihy park is one of three super sensitive trails. Just stay on the trail and stay off the ball fields. Nourse Farms is number 2 on our list and the trail is located along River Road just before C&A repair heading towards Hatfield. It is on the left side of the road heading south toward Hatfield. There are strawberries planted there so stay on the trail and everything should be good. Our 3rd sensitive trail is across the street from Fairview Farms on Long Plain Rd. Again, stay on the trail and all will be OK. This trail is super sensitive sensitive from start to finish so please adhere to the signs. The Great Swamp Trail is closed. This trail runs between Belder’s bridge (GW01) and White Birch Campground. On the map app it is trail number S7. The reroute is up and around the mountain. King street in Hatfield is almost on the super sensitive list. Let’s not put it there this season. Follow the signs, keep the thumb off the handle bar and we should be OK. It’s up to you to keep these trails as well as all the other trails open. Ride safe and ride smart!

Stay on the trails at Nourse Farm and Herlihy Park. This is trail# 8 and trail #9 on the map. Ball fields are off limits as well as the strawberry fields and raspberry fields at Nourse Farm along the river. As you head to Hatfield from Whately along trail #9 Nourse Farms also have raspberries to the left of that trail.  Please stay on the trail.

Trail #14 that crosses Long Plain Road is another area where Nourse Farm have strawberries. Just because they are snow covered does not mean you can ride on them. Stay to the outer edge of the field.

Do to the warm up and rain consider the trails closed. there is no longer enough snow in the valley to ride.  Area mentioned above is under water. Please respect land owners and stay off.

                                                                       Thanks  Todd
