I’ve been looking all day to see what we would need to ride in Mass if we are currently registered in another state. I cant seem to find any information on the states page. We are registered in Vermont and have insurance, do we just need to perches a trail pass and some type of club donation. I cant see them making you register your sled again seeing how its already registered in another state.

thank you

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts does not have any state registration reciprocity; therefore you need to be legally registered in Massachusetts and have a Snowmobile Association of Massachusetts (SAM) Trail Pas to ride on the private portions of the SAM trails. This is unlike Vermont which recognizes out of state registrations; but charges a higher fee for a trail pass to out of state snowmobilers.

Days Get Shorter. Nights Get Longer. Snow Gets Deeper. Life Gets Better.

So would you have to pay state tax on the sled again, That seems odd having your sled registered in two different states.

Fairly certain you won’t have to pay sales tax again, simply prove that you paid it in your home state. Call the registry in advance to be 100% certain, (617) 626-1610.

As Sno-Cat pointed out, other states claim the registration is reciprocal but the trail pass fee is higher and some of that often goes to the state.

Side question:  I am from NH and am looking at registering my sled in MA.  We don’t have sales tax in NH, so how do you deal with that when registering?  Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks

Not positive on this, but I guess you would pay the full sales tax Ma. states for the value of your sled, or at least proof it was paid somewhere.
