One of the few groups eagerly awaiting heavy snowstorms, like those that blasted New England last year, are the members of Snowmobilers United Inc. of Shrewsbury, a nonprofit group of sporting men and women who support multiple charities, including the Telegram & Gazette Santa Fund.

“Last year was fun. We had a great time. This year, so far, has been disappointing, in terms of snow. But that’s New England for you,” said Jason A. Kublbeck, club president.

Snowmobilers United was founded 30 years ago by outdoor sportsmen Steve and Linda Verdone. The first 20 members gathered at the former Rustic Lounge in Holden, but moved monthly meetings to the West Boylston American Legion post 204 in 1983, according to club records.

Members also get together for fundraisers. The club’s annual bowl-a-thon at the Auburn Ten Pin lanes raised $12,000 for charity last year.

Mr. Kublbeck said the club’s favorite charities include the Stepping Stone Community Theater, Easter Seals Camp Sno-Mo and the T&G Santa.

The Stepping Stone theater company, based in Shrewsbury, offers one major production and two workshops per year for teens and adults with and without disabilities.

Camp Sno-Mo in Gilmanton, N.H., offers summer fun for youths age 11 to 21 with disabilities and special needs.

“We like to do what we can for children and anyone who needs our help,” Mr. Kublbeck said.

In its 73rd year, the T&G Santa Fund collects thousands of donations from generous readers and area residents to help buy toys for children in need in Central Massachusetts.
