Tech Corner Preview (Jim Tucker)

The Tech Corner has some interesting snowmobile articles to share with everyone at sledmass this season. I’ve been experimentation with some interesting products including snowmobile skis, helmet-cams and round meaty tires. There may even be a few surprises.

First up, I received a set of Curve Skis to install on the Super Kitty. “Thrusters” are the keyword here. They are metal pieces that mount on the bottom of the ski for suppressing darting. Expect a full report next season in “The Great American Ski Test, Part Three.”

Second, the little lady bought me a GoPro Hero3 helmet cam. I’ve already recorded our trip to the Gaspe in Canada and other rides as well. If you think this type of video format is a fad, think again! There could be a sledmass tech video in the future, a first of it’s kind for SAM. Who knew!

Third, since I’ve gotten the GoPro video camera, I now have a YouTube channel to “go” with it. I invite you to check it out by searching YouTube for “Teamgreen71111’s Channel.” Happy viewing!

Fourth, we all drive trucks to get to the snow destination of choice, right? Most of us want the best traction we can get and are always looking for those goodies that will get us there with authority, right? How about the first ever all-season tire test? Yep, that’s right, just got my hot little hands on a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers for my Dependable Steed. Look for your intrepid reporter behind the wheel for that one. Can’t wait, how about you?

Fifth, ever head across a lake or down an icy trail only to have the overheat light come on? Frustrating, isn’t it? I’m currently testing Duraflex Ice Scratchers, tiny cables bolted to the rear suspension that are deployed during such thin conditions. These bad-boys will scrape the ice and send snow spray up to the heat exchangers and cool your scooter down. Cool, eh? Couldn’t resist.

Look for The Great American Ski Test in the October issue of “On The Trails With SAM” and sledmass.com soon thereafter.
